BALI’S GREATEST GUITAR EXPO IS BACK SOON

After a successful first edition of the Guitar Expo at Hard Rock Hotel Bali in 2019, the event is returning again on October 29th – 30th, 2022. The Hard Rock Hotel Guitar Expo aims to cultivate an appreciation for musicians and strengthen the community through music.

Guitar Expo is a must-attend event that presents a stellar line-up of electric and acoustic guitar makers, vintage dealers, and exhibitors of related guitar gear. On display are a variety of guitars, basses, electrics, acoustic guitars, and other types of musical instruments. In addition to concerts and jam sessions, the Hard Rock Guitar Expo will also feature a guitar clinic and rock guitar competitions for participants of various ages. The competition is free to enter and the period for submitting applications will begin on October 1st and continue until October 20th, 2022.

All of the participants will be vying for the opportunity to take home the grand prize, the Heritage Electric Guitar. The winner of the competition will not only receive a number of fantastic prizes, but they will also have the opportunity to perform at Centerstage on the last day of the Guitar Expo. The jury will consist of two judges; the lead guitarist of Lolot Band, Donnie Lesmana and Sugix Anantra; the 1st winner of Ibanez Flying Fingers 2018.

All are experienced composers, arrangers, and performers. JRX will host a coaching clinic in addition to his one-of-a-kind performance that will take place on October 30.

“This event provides a platform for emerging guitarists to showcase their talent, connect with other artists in the community, and potentially win some great prizes,” said Shane Coates, the General Manager of Hard Rock Hotel Bali.

The Hard Rock Guitar Expo is indeed a unique opportunity that brings together not only the local music community but also music fans from all over the world, with a particular focus on those who are passionate about guitars. It’s a free event and anticipated to attract Hard Rock Hotel guests, other tourists and local residents.

Hard Rock Guitar expo will be held on October 29th – 30th from 10 am to 6 pm.

In addition, Hard Rock Hotel Bali will display the Pink Guitar collection in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness and raise funds through the sale of Pinktober merchandise on this occasion. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed in October each year to raise awareness of the disease.

Valentine’s in Bali. Anything going on?

Valentine’s Day or night has always been a busy dining and nightlife moment in Bali and this week, namely Tuesday, shouldn’t be any different.

Most restaurants have a special Valentine’s dinner set menu on offer, but if not, just dine straight from the menu ala carte at any of these romantic restaurants and locations around the island.

Breeze at the Semaya, Ku De Ta, La Lucciola, Starfish Blue at W have all the trappings of romance and fine-dining, or you could try ShiShi’s all-you-can-eat extravaganza, too. They are all in Seminyak/Petitenget. Something else of great interest down the road in Kerobokan is Casera Terrace who are having a Valentines to remember. Girls eat for free! That’s right, your date just ended up costing you half! DJs are also supplying the vibe.

Up in Ubud, Mozaic is back in action and with a Valentines set menu, also the Four Seasons and other luxury hotels in Sayan and Cascades at Viceroy are great options. Not sure there is anything so romantic in Canggu, but maybe some kind of dimly lit warung or Mexican could fit the bill.

There is plenty of romance going on in Uluwatu though. Ulu Cliffhouse has their regular movie night after dinner on Tuesday, the Bulgari is of course, next level Italian and fancy. White Rock Beach Club is holding a special Valentine’s show called Love Potions, which has specialized in love shots cocktails and foam parties with love floaties. Sounds like fun.

The Jimbaran luxury hotels, Four Seasons, Ayana, Intercontinental et al, will no doubt be offering all kinds of loveable dining options. Locca Sea House has a special evening for unattached folks with a party starting at sunset, the Swipe Right Party. But if that’s all too much for you, maybe just grab a spot at a fish stall on Jimbaran beach.

After all the eating and intimate conversations are done it’s then time to get out for a little party. It’s normally busy out and about after Valentine’s dinner as couples move to the clubs for a little more romance and perhaps a drink or three, and especially around the Seminyak area. try Woobar at W Bali – they have a special event going on, Red Ruby also, Forge and ShiShi are good batch, the Shady bars also have Valentine’s events. Also remember, women eat for free at Casera Terrace and there will be DJs till late.

See you out and about.

Bali New Settlers – What’s Next?

The traffic is next level nowadays.
I reside on the north side of The Great Wall of Canggu. This means every day by 2pm the only way in and out of Canggu, or at least Berawa, are congesting more than a wet market attendant’s nose in Beijing, no way in or out. If you are in a car forget it. Abandon ship ASAP. You’re better off walking except you are likely to be hit by some crazed motorbike rider most probably high on something trying to escape the reality of the new Bali traffic. Some days it’s not so bad—you can fly through the wall without even stopping, but they are few and you have to give thanks for such moments.

During Covid it was different. I used to pop the dogs in the back of the old Kijang and trundle off to Double Six Beach without a care and the wind in my hair. It would take 15 to 20 minutes from Berawa, unless there was a hold up in front of Monsieur Spoon or somewhere with some random uber-large Jakarta plated Alpha trying to park. That could hold you back enough time to go in and buy a croissant. The beach was like some deserted island without a person, umbrella or day bed in sight. Just the sound of the cracking waves as they broke on the pristine white sand.

Fast forward to now. It does make you wonder where all the traffic comes from nowadays. I read that international tourist numbers are running at about 40% of pre-covid numbers. The Chinese aren’t even back. Obviously, there are many local domestic tourists continually arriving (with their cars), but there are no concrete figures on that hand. Possibly there is another answer for this traffic/jam phenomenon and that could be that half the people arriving here aren’t going home again. Are they coming here with one-way tickets and setting up shop? It makes you wonder.

All that time to think about life, or the lack of it, during lockdown in some god-forsaken part of the world looking at pretty pictures of this tropical island on Instagram may have done it. “That’s it, I’m outta here!” is heard as a collective rush or stampede for the gate at airports around the world heralded the beginning of the re-opening of the world – and an opportunity to get away once and for good. The central government has also made it easier for prospective new settlers too with a new 10 year second home visa proposed to open the flood gates even wider come the New Year.

But as another restaurant, bar, store or beach club opens one can only wonder, first, who is going to staff these new fashionable places that are literally opening every week because there aren’t any staff left on the island, and then, who is going to visit them. It’s hard to say. Maybe the new settlers will feed each other’s new venues to keep them alive. But the reality is probably most of them will be gone in the next couple of moons and only the strongest will survive – as usual.

Or maybe not, maybe it all just gets bigger and bigger with more people arriving every day to feed all these new businesses. But then that brings us back to the traffic and lack of new roads to cater to more vehicles and people. #rollyoureyes

These are interesting times on the island and it will be very interesting to see what will happen over the next year. For good or bad, there is no stopping it. Suggestions. Doing your moving around town early in the day, or late at night is a good way forward.

5 Best Hidden Beaches in South Bali –

Bali is known for its famous beaches and you might think there are no more hidden beaches left in Bali as almost everyone already knows every beach here. But, if you are looking for a new adventure to find an isolated, quiet, and far from crowd beach, the list below is for you!

1. Bingin Beach

A reason why Bingin Beach is included as a hidden beach in South Bali is because it’s relatively hard to find. But once you find the beach, you’ll get treated by the gorgeous chilled out vibe. There are some great cafes along the cliffside too, making it perfect for weekend relaxing time. If you are into surfing, the waves here are perfect for surfers looking for a challenge.

2. Kubu Beach

Kubu Beach is located next to Ayana Resort Jimbaran. You will get a little adventure finding the beach since it is a relatively new discovered beach. From the parking area, you need to hike and trek for about 30 minutes through woods, swamps and rocks until you see the beach area. But the views are totally worth it! This beach is popular for its natural arc formation as the photo has become famous in social media. What a sight it is!

3. Nyang Nyang Beach

Nyang Nyang beach, located in the Pecatu area, is pristine of white sand and lined by a towering green cliff. If you are looking for some solitude, this secluded beach is perfect since it’s far from the crowds. You will get a little journey from the parking area to the beach by trekking down the rugged terrain. But don’t worry, the journey is rewarded by splendid views that you’ll find in no other place.

4. Gunung Payung Beach

Gunung Payung Beach, once known as Secret Beach, is just an hour’s drive away from Denpasar. It is a remote and quiet setting overlooking stunning seascapes that offer powder white sands, warm tropical waters and a lush green backdrop. The natural reefs barriers here also mean calm and swimmable waters most of the time. Must visit the beach!

5. Thomas Beach

Thomas Beach is one of the quietest beaches in Bukit. Its secluded strip of white sand beach, rolling turquoise waves, and shady beach umbrellas make it the perfect spot for a day of swimming. From the parking area you need a short 10 minute walk down the steps to reach the shoreline. You’ll most likely get to enjoy the beach almost to yourself since it’s quite an underrated beach in the Southern area.
