Caviar | Trendy European Restaurant in Orchard

Caviar is a comparatively new restaurant that discovered its place on the basement of Palais Renaissance. It not too long ago welcomed a brand new Head Chef, Denis Jacques Lartigue, a longtime French culinary veteran. Along with Sous Chef Joshua Hariharan, the pair has unveiled a 5 course menu Items of Summer season showcasing the season’s premium substances and flavours. This menu is out there solely from 18 July to 30 September 2022.

Shortly after we had been seated, we had been served with this trio of Snacks – cod fish croquettes topped with uni, foie gras on toast and artichokes.
caviar-02
Subsequent, we had been served with complimentary bread Rye Sourdough and Beef Tallow-Herbs Brioche. We extremely advocate that you’ve each the breads, even if you’re not a carb lover or are rationing your energy. The previous is served with french caviar butter which provides a barely salty profile however elevates the flavour. The latter is nice by itself and could be very addictive. Each breads had been served heat.
caviar-04
The primary dish is that this chilled Obsiblue Prawn. Shellfish (from France) is first minced then mixed with banana shallots and pickled apples earlier than being rolled inside the creamy avocado slices and topped with prawn cream and nutty Polanco Siberian Grand Cru caviar. To complete, chilli and mango kombucha sauce (made in-house) is added to chop by this creamy dish.
caviar-05
Subsequent, we had the Sakoshi Bay Oyster; braised potatoes are creamed with kelp and hen inventory, and served with sea asparagus from France and Hyogo oyster. The dish can be sprinkled with a zest of residence cured salted lemon. We thought that the addition of the salted lemon might need tipped the dish to be a tad too salty and had knowledgeable the kitchen about it.
caviar-06
Our favourite dish of the day was the Engawa – a perfectly-seared roulade of flounder fin from Japan is adorned with bafun uni custard, tangy selfmade verjus tuile and a spoonful of Kaluga Cross Breed caviar in a moat of chowder rendered from a clam broth and apple cider discount.
caviar-07
The final savory dish was the Hokkaido A4 Wagyu, cloaked in a bone marrow crust and broiled. It’s served with roasted purple cauliflower beef gram (a fermented sauce constructed from beef trimmings). The attention-grabbing accompaniment was a banana shallot full of beef mousse and pickled mustard seeds.
caviar-08
Dessert was the Yuzu meringue with sorbet and chia seed jelly. It was a great palate cleanser after the wealthy dishes previous this however the yuzu sorbet may be just a little bitter for these with low tolerance for bitter meals.

Caviar is a spot that prides itself on contemporary seasonal produce and distinctive dishes and is price a go to though the worth is on the upper finish. We additionally thought that maybe some steerage may very well be given to diners on what kinds of caviar is used within the totally different dishes because the meal progressed in order that diners can higher admire the varied origins and taste profiles of the caviar.

An American couple were found dead at a luxury hotel in Mexico. Family fear they were poisoned

Abby Lutz and John Heathco (Family Handout/LinkedIn)

Two Americans who were on vacation in Mexico were found dead in their hotel room on Tuesday, June 13, after apparently being “poisoned” by an unknown substance.

The couple, identified as 28-year-old Abby Lutz and 41-year-old John Heathco were staying at the luxury hotel Rancho Pescadero in Baja California Sur.

Paramedics were called to the couple’s hotel room after receiving a report that they were unconscious, according to ABC News.

However, once the paramedics were checked, they determined Lutz and Heathco were unresponsive and did not have vital signs.

Now, Lutz’s family is speaking out, believing the two suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Here’s everything we know so far.

What happened?

Lutz and Heathco were on vacation together in Baja California Sur, according to a statement in a GoFundMe started by one of Lutz’s family members.

The two were staying at the Rancho Pescadero, a luxury hotel and Hyatt property located in El Pescader, approximately 40 miles north of Cabo San Lucas.

Lutz and Heathco began to experience symptoms they thought were consistent with food poisoning and went to the hospital for treatment during the trip, according to Lutz’s GoFundMe.

The couple started feeling “much better” several days later and by Monday (12 June) were back at the hotel and communicating with their families.

Just one day later, their families received phone calls saying they had “passed away peacefully” in their hotel room in their sleep.

Paramedics in the area responded to a report of two unconscious people in the hotel and arrived around 9pm on 13 June.

The Baja California Sur attorney general’s office said in a statement that the two died of poisoning by an unknown substance and had no signs of physical violence. They said the two had been dead between 10 and 11 hours by the time they arrived.

Lutz’s family said they were told the deaths were “due to improper ventilation of the resort and could be carbon monoxide poisoning”.

One of the first responders, Fernando Valencia, said that he and his partner felt “dizzy” when they entered the room where Lutz and Heathco were staying.

“We went out of the room as soon as possible… I was afraid for my partner because my first thought in my mind was ‘are we going to die?’” Mr. Valencia told Good MorningAmerica in an interview.

Mr. Valencia called it “one of the worst experiences.”

Henar Gil, the general manager of Rancho Pescadero said in a statement provided to The Independents: “We are truly heartbroken by this terrible tragedy. Our hearts are with the impacted families and loved ones during this unimaginable loss.”

“Local authorities are still actively investigating the situation, and the safety and security of our guests and colleagues remains a top priority, as always. We can confirm there is no evidence of violence related to this situation, and we are not aware of any threats to guests’ safety or wellbeing,” Ms Gil said.

She added “We are working to care for those who have been impacted and we are working closely with authorities as they conduct their investigation to understand the cause of death. Further inquiries should be directed to local authorities.”

US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said they are “closely monitoring the investigation” into Lutz and Heathco’s deaths in a news conference on Thursday (15 June).

“We stand ready to provide any consular – any appropriate consular assistance,” Mr. Miller added.

Current and former employees of the hotel have voiced concerns, alleging that the hotel knew about gas leak problems and even disabled the carbon monoxide alarms.

Ricardo Carbajal, the former night manager of Rancho Pescadero told The Los Angeles Times: “They knew there were problems with a gas leak.”

He added: “Everyone was aware of the alarms and that the detectors were off.”

Mr Carbajal, who stopped working at the luxury hotel in March, said carbon monoxide detectors went off frequently over a period of three months last year before hotel managers disabled the alarms due to noise complaints.

Current employees of the luxury hotel told The Los Angeles Times that there were complaints of a “strong smell of gas” from employees and guests but hotel managers ignored it.

“Housekeepers reported gas leaks, security reported gas leaks maintenance workers reported gas leaks,” said one employee who requested to remain anonymous.

Who are the victims?

The victims are Abby Lutz and John Heathco.

According to the GoFundMe description, they were dating at the time of their deaths.

Lutz, 28, was from Newport Beach, California but grew up in Idaho, her aunt, Karen Lutz, told The Daily Beast.

According to Karen, Lutz loved traveling and had previously visited Europe, Asia and Mexico.

“Abby was supposed to meet up with her dad this week for Father’s Day,” the GoFundMe description for Lutz says. “Abby was the most beautiful soul and we will miss her so much.”

Her family is asking for help in bringing her home so they give her a funeral.

Heathco owned a health supplement company in Newport Beach, according to his LinkedIn profile. It is unclear where he is from originally.

Molly Shannon makes a superstar return as host

Hey there — it’s SNL in Review time, and this week we have a special host. one of Saturday Night Live‘s happy graduates have come home. It’s nearly impossible to consider the history of prominent female cast members without evoking Molly Shannon. From “Delicious Dish” to “Mary Katherine Gallagher” to “Dog Show,” her character work represented a key contribution to SNL during a time when the show was finally beginning to give female voices more prominence.

I am joined tonight by former SNL cast member Robin Duke, who is co-starring in shelved, which just premiered on CTV. On Shannon, she notes: “I love her I’m 50 character, Sally O’Malley. It’s so true and great. It’s out there, I like how bold she is with her characters. She’s a good actress too, which helps really. As big as her character can be, her acting grounds them. There’s a truth there that is really identifiable.”

Exactly! With Duke as an obvious precursor, there’s an argument that Shannon’s boldness, alongside the likes of Cheri Oteri, liberated future women in the cast to be as wild and brash as any of the male performers. Do you get Kristen Wiig or Kate McKinnon without Shannon paving the way? I do not see it. And since SNL, Shannon has carved a wonderful niche for herself on TV and in independent dramas. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the only one in a similar lane. Right now she’s appearing in the third season of The Other Two as well as in the Showtime comedy series I Love That for You alongside fellow former SNL alum Vanessa Bayer. She is also co-starring in A Good Person opposite Florence Pugh.

NBC Molly Shannon hosts ‘SNL’

Yes, she is indeed a SUPERSTAR! Quite the range. Keep scrolling below and find out what’s good for you.

Cold Open

In honor of Easter this weekend, we join Jesus at the Last Supper. The iconic painting comes alive with Mikey Day as Christ and Molly Kearney as Judas. “A famous, wonderful man arrested for no reason at all,” interjects James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump. Ah, that’s one of those cold opens. again. Trump keeps comparing himself to “Jesus of Azkaban” with Ron DeSantis as his Judas. As he goes on to note the rest of the students are frozen behind him.

This sketch has a lot of potential, but even with JAJ’s very amusing Trump take, I’m not sure I can recommend it.

Monologues

Shannon last hosted back in 2007, but she’s since returned to the show a few times to comeo. “It’s so great to be back,” she says in her monologue, reflecting on her kids and the memoir she put out last year. It was a frank book about some of the troubles she’s experienced throughout her life. This leads to an excellent Broadway rendition, in which Shannon calls on various cast members to air their issues. Kearney says they are not in the show much; Bowen Yang is attracted to his therapist; Kenan Thompson is addicted to buying roles; and Andrew Dismukes still dresses like a little boy.

Shannon goes beyond the cast for admissions from the audience. Lorne Michaels alert! Shannon calls on him but he doesn’t have any problems. But Martin Short ran out Ozempic. Nice use of the cast, a Superstar call-out, and a fun guest cameo. Watch this!

“Valets”

Dismukes is coaching three new recruits (JAJ, Shannon, and Thompson) on the ideal way to retrieve a customer’s keys. He has three core rules to follow: lil joke, lil bow, lil jog. You won’t believe this, but the recruits just don’t get it! JAJ makes a tiny penis joke. Shannon says she was catfished by a middle schooler. “Actually I’m in love with you,” she keeps confessing. Thompson talks too low.

“Netflix Live Promotion: Jeannie Darcy”

Oh hell yes, they brought back Jeannie Darcy! Debuting way back in 2000, Darcy was an uninspired stand up comedian with a mullet. Her catchphrase, in case you can’t tell is: “Don’t get me started, don’t even get me started.”

I love this. It’s a fun, sly spoof, and worked perfectly in this context (riffing on Chris Rock’s live special). Here she is back in 2007. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if Darcy Shannon’s Mr. Saturday Night style recurring character.

“Pregnant Co-worker”

Susie is glowing in maternal instinct. She is excited to start maternity leave too – until a loud audible fart diffuses her womb. This is dark! Check it out.

Please Don’t Destroy’s “Molly Shannon 2K23”

Molly2k23 is a game about Shannon’s life. Discovering this, the real deal falls into a rabbit hole.

I like this a lot! We have our second Superstar reference of the night.

The Daniels play

Devon Walker is excited his girlfriend has published a play. But to his horror, the show, A Year of a Thousand Men, is about her extensive sexual history and true feelings about him. In her eyes, he’s a dork. He was the 1000th man. Joe Jonas has a small role here.

Jonas Brothers – first musical performance

“Waffle House” is the second and final single from the Jonas Brothers’ sixth studio album, The Albums. The song “was born from a simple but powerful idea: When you sit down with the people that matter most, anything is possible. This song isn’t about a restaurant, it’s about coming together with the people you love,” the group told Good MorningAmerica.

“Weekend Update”

Subjects include the Harlow Crow-Justice Clarence Thomas scandal, and Trump’s arrangement. A bit muted tonight, though Michael Che is increasingly unhinged. This week, DeSantis has escalated his feud with Disney, threatening to impose taxes on its hotels and roads that lead to the theme park. To comment: Jafar from Aladdin (Which). Turns out a lot of Disney characters are gay. He has pointed words for “the boy” DeSantis.

Earlier this week, Angel Reese (Punkie Johnson) said neither she, nor her team, would be visiting the White House after the Tigers defeated the University of Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 to win their first NCAA women’s basketball national championship. Reese also made a gesture towards Caitlin Clark of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Your coworker who is busy doing nothing Crystal (Heidi Gardner) also appears. She is criticized but is on to discuss a recent Labor Department report regarding increased in-person work. “Hello Caesar,” she frantically says, greeting her salad. First time she’s eaten in a month! Very funny reveal on her job: she is Che’s assistant!

“Drugs Commercial”

A spoof of commercials that use euphemisms and upbeat settings/music to suggest they treat vaginal issues. Shannon is concerned that her costars’ energy levels are “mid” while filming an ad for Vagerted. “This product sounds really awful,” says Ego Nwodim. They were wrong in the monologue, there’s actually a lot of Kearney tonight!

Jonas Brothers – second musical performance

Another recently released song from their latest album, “Walls,” is the last track. The Jonas Brothers previously appeared on the show in 2009 and 2019. (And “The Oldest Jonas” remains a classic.)

Sally O’Malley

The Jonas Brothers want a new choreographer. They are not a teen band anymore and want a more mature stage act. Cue, to applause, Sally O’Malley. She’s still kicking – literally!

“The grand canyon has nothing on me!” says O’Malley as she hikes up her outfit. Still proud after all these years. Oh boy, legacy act/victory lap time, the Jonas Brothers show up also dressed up as O’Malley. “Kick, stretch…”

Okay, I love Sally. But shoehorning this as a 10-to-1? This feels rushed and half assed.

“CNN App”

People have based their entire personality around hating Trump. The anxiety over the indictment is too much. “In your mind he’s already in jail,” the app reassures.

I like Shannon as Maggie Haberman. And Sherman as Wolf Blitzer. I’m generally a bit underwhelmed by all this, but it’s a funny concept.

Final thoughts

-What did you think? Vote here or weigh in below!

-I feel underwhelmed. This never really got its foot, right?

-Go watch shelved! Thanks again to Robin Duke. She noted to me that the transition from a sketch background to a sitcom can be “difficult. I have to be very careful with this character [in Shelved]. I need to get the laughs out of an honest place. Not a judgmental or critical place – it must be identifiable. That kind of character on stage could be a wackadoo, but that’s not what I’m doing on shelved. I’m trying to find who that person is, and what if it was me? How would I be in that situation? I would want a sense of humor about where I was, but also defensive, which I think that character is. She doesn’t want anyone to get close to her right now. She has a lot of walls up. There’s a bit more history behind this character than I would do in a sketch.”

How the property changed hands over past decades

The historic Hotel Putnam, pictured here in 2017, has continued to deteriorate over the years. At 100 years old, the building is believed to be beyond repair, and an engineer recommended at the end of 2022 that it be demolished.

DELAND — The historic Hotel Putnam has seen a lot in its 100 years at 225 W. New York Ave. in downtown.

Demolition began on Feb. 13, about six weeks after a structural engineer recommended it be torn down because of the level of deterioration.

Here’s a look at what happened just within the past 10-plus years:

2012: Apartments no more

Owner Jayne Rocco receives notice from the bank that it would begin collecting “all rents and profits” due to her falling behind on mortgage payments.

The last of the remaining tenants were evicted from the Putnam, which had been serving as a 60-unit apartment building, the previous year as many had stopped paying their rent, which led to Rocco falling behind on the mortgage.

The two clubs on the first floor, JR’s Saloon and Club Envy, also closed around this time.

moving out:The Hotel Putnam’s final days as an apartment building in downtown DeLand

2013: New owner from New York City

The Hotel Putnam was purchased from Occor Inc., owned by Rocco, for $902,800, by Soly Halabi with Venture Capital Properties in New York City, according to property records.

Halabi said he and his silent partner in the venture wanted to restore the property for operation as a hotel or possibly apartments.

‘Move quickly’:The new owner talks about intentions for the Putnam Hotel project

2014: Plans for Putnam ‘on hold’

A year into owning the Putnam, Halabi says the plans he and his silent partner have for the building are “on hold for the time being.”

He also said they wouldn’t knock the aging building down.

“There’s too much history with the building,” Halabi said that July.

2015: Sold again

A Daytona Beach-based development company purchases the Putnam for $450,000, according to property records.

Summit Hospitality Management Group declined to comment at that time on the plans for the vacant building.

2016: Hotel Putnam ‘available’

A for-sale sign is posted at the front of the property, just west of the intersection of West New York and Florida avenues.

The listed agent, Scott Garrett with the Orlando-based Boss Commercial Real Estate, said the asking price was $999,999.

Summit Hospitality’s vice president of operations said that September that the company was actually hoping to keep the acquisition and find a possible partner in the project.

2017: New proposal from new developer

Sarasota-based Tony Collins, who was under contract to buy the Putnam, proposes a plan to the City Commission in April that would see the city contribute $750,000 in cash over five years.

Additionally, Collins sought a change to the city’s code that would amount to a tax exemption of $600,000 to $700,000 over 10 years. Collins pitched using the Putnam for “high-end” apartments with a museum space on the first floor.

The commission voted that June to invest $500,000 from the general fund over five years.

By the year’s end, the agreement expired as Collins failed to obtain the necessary financing.

expired:The agreement between the developer and DeLand on Hotel Putnam failed to come to fruition

2018: Orlando-based developer enters the picture; a fire breaks out

Mohamed Rashad via his company, Big Bubba Investments, LLC, purchases the Putnam for $1 million.

Not long after making the purchase with plans to turn it into a multi-family project, DeLand firefighters responded to the property after a blaze was spotted.

Future after fire?:Prospects for DeLand’s historic Hotel Putnam uncertain after blaze

The investigation into the “set-fire” was closed six months later, no suspects were identified.

It was common knowledge that trespassers entered the property and/or the actual building now and then.

2021: Utah-based developer brings hope

Axia Partners bought the Putnam Hotel from Rashad for $2.3 million in November.

DeLand City Manager Michael Pleus said he and others familiar with the property’s history were feeling as hopeful as Axia had experience with major redevelopments.

Sol & Ora | “Sun & Shore”: The Coastal Way of Life in Sentosa

Does the name Sol & Ora ring a bell? If it does, you probably have heard of or even visited Sol & Luna, a bistro at CapitaSpring, Raffles Place. Riding on the success of its sister restaurant, Sol & Ora is 1-Group’s latest multi-concept beachfront project and is perched on the rooftop of the Outpost Hotel, a stone throw from Imbiah Station. It is an all-day dining restaurant with a menu inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, specifically from the countries of Italy, France, Spain and Greece.

Sol & Ora 01
Although we visited on a chilly weekend morning, we had a glass of Summer Solstice – a cocktail with Old Sport gin, Greek 5-herb tea syrup and rose syrup to start our meal there. It was light and refreshing with distinct floral flavors from the herb tea syrup and the rose petals.
Sol & Ora 02
We had two items from their Weekend Brunch / Daily Breakfast Menu – Bagel Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon and the Sol & Ora Fontina Scrambled Eggs. The former consists of nutty, toasted sesame bagel with poached eggs, smoked Hollandaise and smoked salmon. There is also the option of smoked ham.
Sol & Ora 03
The highlight of the Sol & Ora Fontina Scrambled Eggs, as the name suggests has to be the creamy, soft egg curds cooked with fontina cheese, served alongside crispy bacon, roasted Roma tomatoes, roasted button mushrooms and sourdough toast.
Sol & Ora 04
During our visit, we were informed by the staff that the place is rather popular with diners for the dinner service as they are treated to a wonderful view of the sunset. If you’re visiting in the evening, then you can try the La “Bomba” as an appetizer. This Spanish tapas is a deep-fried breaded sphere of minced chicken and potatoes, seasoned with a Mediterranean spice then drizzled with house-made aioli and a piquant, spicy tomato passata sauce.
Sol & Ora 05
As you would know, I am a pasta lover so I had to try one of the offerings from their pasta menu. The Cavatelli Pasta consists of squid, crab, amalfi lemon, red onions and spinach. The seafood stock and the ingredients reminded us of an Italian version of our local hokkien mee, so this dish was highly relatable.
Sol & Ora 06
Other mains include the Seared Red Norwegian Salmon and Wood-Fired Wagyu Bavette. The flavors of Sicily are brought out in the Salmon dish with the Trapanese pesto accompanying the moist salmon fillet. Made with a blend of almonds and pecorino, the pesto sauce is unlike the usual that uses pine nuts and parmigiano. This was voted as the favorite dish among my dining companions.
Sol & Ora 07
The Bavette on the other hand is served with truffle sauce and Maldon salt. We thought that the steak was a little tough, so do inform the staff of the doneness if you are getting this dish.
Sol & Ora 08
A plant-based dish for vegetarians is the Imam Bayildi. A classic Mediterranean dish with Arabic origins, the eggplant is first wood-fire scorched, hollowed out then stuffed with a filling of eggplant braised in tomato, coriander seeds and cinnamon, followed by baking in the oven in a tomato sauce. Lastly, the egg plant is topped with crumbled Persian feta cheese and peppery rocket leaves.
Sol & Ora 09
We rounded our meal with churros with chocolate dip and Tarte Tropezienne.
Sol & Ora 10
I thought that the French Tarte Tropezienne was unique, a vanilla pastry cream sandwiched between fried brioche buns, finished with a dusting of powdered sugar and toasted desiccated coconut.

As you can see, there is a wide variety of offerings on the Sol & Ora menu so give it a try if you want somewhere more private and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Budget per person: $30 to $40 per person

Vin Geek | Restaurant Bar with DIY Wine Dispenser

Restaurant bar Vin Geek quietly opened its doors mid-this year at Pacific Plaza. However, its name is probably known by wine-lovers. Upon entering the restaurant bar, you’ll be greeted by the DIY wine dispenser – with approximately 20+ bottles on tap at any time, a selection of whites, reds and roses. All of them are available in a tasting portion (30ml), half glass (90ml) or full glass (180ml), with prices as low as $2.50+ for a tasting portion.

Ordering is simple: choose a wine, scan the QR code and cart out. The chosen vino will then be dispensed into your glass!

This Christmas, they are serving a special 3 or 4-course menu: a salad, a small plate, main and dessert. The salad is a 125g burrata cheese with a generous serving of arugula, cherry tomatoes and balsamic dressing.

For the small plate, we have the scallops & endive, which comes with a cauliflower puree and dill.

The lobster risotto is my favorite dish. The risotto is cooked in lobster stock, garnished with parsley and hints of fresh lemon. A good portion for sharing if you’re in a group, but otherwise it’s also good for one with your choice of wine to wash down the carbs.

Some other sharing dishes from the menu include the pork loin served with charred cabbage and mango chutney. The meat is tender and sliced for easy eating and pairs well with the red wine on tap.

The flat steak was another dish that stood out in terms of flavour. Well-seasoned and finished with a sear for a smoky aftertaste. The accompanying charred broccolini was also on point. However, when the steak was first served to us, it was a tad too pink in the middle so we had to send it back.

We also had the Tiramisu as our dessert. The menu at Vin Geek is fairly “safe” and does not reinvent the wheel. Most of the dishes are well-executed save for some hiccups along the way. However, the focus of the place is definitely on the wines. And the food is conceptualized to complement the vinos. Check out the place if you’re keen to sample a variety of wines or are exploring which sorts of wines you would like. There is also a range of gourmet food products available so feel free to wander about.
